Gateway Park and Preserve is located 1/2 mile north of the City of Marengo, Iowa and occupies a portion of the southern bank of the Iowa River. The project site is 131 acres and includes a 41-acre lake and a 12-acre pond which were created through the excavation of sand and gravel which was used for a concrete business. There is a network of walking and biking trails, that encompass the lake and pond. While still in early development, we hope to be a viable asset to the community, county and surrounding area.
Or you can walk through the Gateway Park Arboretum that is nestled on the southern edge of the park within 7 1/2 acres.
Another great ice fishing pond that contains large crappies, Bluegills, Largemouth Bass and other species.
Come out and walk your dog, ride your bike or your significant other and enjoy nature while walking on a limestone trail.
Along the way you can look for Bald Eagles and other migratory birds along the Iowa River.
Or stand at the base of the Veteran's Memorial and honor those men and women that serve in all of our armed forces with a flying of the flags.
